While having custom Virtual Circuits (VC) configured for various branches/offices, the Internet suddenly became down and there was no traffic for certain branches. Turning off the Optimizer resolves the Internet inaccessibility and slowness problems.
This article provides details on the possible root cause and resolution steps for such an Internet outage.
While reviewing the generated System PDF with detailed Virtual Circuit information, the bandwidth appears to be configured individually per each policy in Kbps, not % values.
When calculating the Maximum BW of all VC policies, the highest limit allowed by the License is reached.
In this particular scenario, the total Max BW configured in Exinda is over 2.7 Gbps, but the license subscription allows only 2 Gbps. That's why Optimizer is being choked and causing Internet issues for certain policies.
There are two ways on how to overcome this problem:
- Purchasing more bandwidth, additional 1 Gbps for a total of 3 Gbps
- For this option, please reach out to GFI Sales.
- Scaling down the VC bandwidths so in total they do not exceed the allowed limit (2Gbps in this case).
- This would be a good exercise in re-evaluating the usage of the subnets versus what is allocated, modifying, and documenting to make it easier for when you have to make further changes in the future.
