In the real time monitor of the Exinda firmware, it shows you the total bandwidth going in and outbound of the Exinda in order to get an idea of the type of traffic passing through the device. With edge cache, the Exinda feature that allows for commonly requested content to be served at LAN speeds, it is possible to send traffic straight from the Exinda's edge cache to the requesting device without needing to traverse out to the WAN. As a result, the content can travel at LAN speed versus the typical WAN speeds out to the internet.In the real time monitor, traffic that is hitting the edge cache engine shows up with a blue stripe on the real time monitor. However, it can be seen that the blue striped traffic is often not going at LAN speeds on v7 of the firmware, while on v6, it could be seen going at full LAN speed as fast as the cable could support. This is because in version 6 of the ExOS firmware, the real time monitor showed the edge cache content 'pre QoS' - where the system did not take into account the type of traffic, simply reporting eveything going in and out of the interfaces on the bridge. v7 of the firmware takes into account the fact that there is traffic from cache and traffic from the WAN. Blue striped traffic on v7 of the firmware is the requests (or responses from the WAN) for traffic htiting the edge cache engine; traffic being served from the cache does not show up in the real time monitor.
As a result, blue striped traffic is the QoSed speed of requests coming into, or WAN traffic coming back and being placed into cache (as well as being sent to the requester). It adds to the total throughput in the real time monitor, but is not indicative of how fast (or necessarily how much) is actually being served from the edge cache itself.
